Game # 4, Brighton vs. Toofan (3-26-06)

Brighton got on track once again handing Toofan it second lost of the season with a score of 244 to 166. The opening pair of Vamsee and Jermaine put up a score of 93, with Jermaine leading the way with 46 and some picturesque hook shots, but it wasn't all smooth sailing thou, Brighton found themselves at 129 for 5, at which point Samuel and Par took the score to 183, with a fiery 41 from Samuel. Par took control the rest of the way, he finish with 35 , caught on the last ball of the inning.

Brighton is off this weekend, the next game will be on April, 9 against Miramar Masters, at St George Park.

Game # 3, Brighton vs. Atlantic (3-19-06)

The weekend that Brighton had hoped for never happened, we lost the toss, but still had the opportunity to bat first and lost the first four wickets for just 11 runs. Markie and Jaswal brought the score up to 60 before Markie got out. Brighton was still able to score 110 despite poor calls by the umpire who took 3 wickets for Atlantic. In addition to this, the umpire made several bad calls in favor of Atlantic in their short stay at the crease. Without the bad calls, Atlantic should have been about 20 for 4 instead they ended up with 43 for 3 when the umpire decided to pull stumps and go home. It's hard to predict the actual outcome of this game had it played to conclusion, but it was apparent early on that the umpire was affecting the outcome.

We all expect professionalism and objectivity from our umpires, so it is unfortunate that our team has experienced problems of this sort from the same umpire over the course of the past 2 years. It's unfortunate the game wasn't played to completion, and this is reflected (without any details) on the FSCL website which reported just the incomplete score and the highlights. But the truth of the matter is that the umpire took more wickets than P. Liyange, and S. Desai ,which is both truthful and rather ridiculous.

Here's hoping for more professionalism and fewer incidents from our cricket officials for the rest of the season.

Brighton Cricket Club put that heart breaking lost to Atlantic Cricket Club in last year's semifinals behind them and started the 40 overs competition with no mercy, by defeating Lagaan with a score of 295 for 8 to191 all out. Everyone on the Brighton's squad was ready for this opening day it wouldn't have matter who they were up against , they would have felt the bat just as Lagaan did. Vamsee Kalam led the scoring with a cool 50, followed by Brighton with 40, and the Mitto brothers Nick and Sunil both with 35 each, and another quick 34 from Rajendra.
